Abstract

A number of local potentials which provide good fits to the 1S0 phase shifts of MacGregor, Arndt and Wright for pp and np scattering are described. Their relation to Bargmann potentials is exhibited. The off-energy-shell properties of these potentials are studied in relation to a number of well-known potentials. The implications of the existence of soft local potentials for several nuclear problems are discussed.
