Band crossing in 186Hg

Abstract

The decay of 186Tl has been studied using the ISOCELE isotope separator operated on-line with the Orsay synchrocyclotron. A level scheme of 186Hg is proposed; the 0+2 and 2+2 states at 523 keV and 620.8 keV, respectively, are the first members of a deformed rotational band which crosses the quasispherical ground-state one. Theoretical interpretations are given in the framework of available models.
