Abstract

The 78, 76Se(p, t)76, 74Se reactions have been studied at a proton energy of 33 MeV using detector telescopes and particle identification techniques. Twenty-eight states up to an excitation energy of 4.64 MeV in 74Se and twenty-five states up to 4.43 MeV in 76Se were observed, many for the first time. Angular distributions were measured for many of these states from 15–90° and the results compared with standard zero-range DWBA calculations. Many new Jπ assignments were made on the basis of the DWBA calculations and a comparison of the angular distributions with the empirical shapes of transitions to states with well-known Jπ. In particular, two excited O+ states were observed in each nucleus with the strength of the O2+ state in 74Se being enhanced relative to the ground state by a factor of six as compared to the O2+ states in the other Se isotopes. Enhancement coefficients were calculated for simple two-neutron pickup configurations.
