Abstract

Mica track detectors have been employed to measure the intensity, angular distribution and track-length distribution of fission fragments from eleven target nucleides from Cu to Ho, bombarded with 167 MeV α-particles. Calibration of the mica detectors was effected with known projectiles, energies and intensities.

Fissilities have been found to decrease monotonically with decreasing target mass, and no abrupt change in the fission mass-division mode was detectable in the series of systems studied, in conflict with theoretical expectations. The total fission fragment kinetic energy was, however, found to decrease with target mass in accordance with model calculations.
