The mechanism of this type, based on an isochronous transport of secondary electrons, was used successfully to suppress intense background from fission in γ-ray spectroscopy investigation of the 222Th nucleus already in 1983 [12]. The total secondary electron yield γT from a foil is defined as the average number of secondary electrons emitted from the foil surfaces per incoming projectile.
