Abstract

Results are presented for 1 GeV protons inelastically scattered from the low-lying levels in 12C and 16O. Using the Blair diffraction model, we obtain deformation parameters that are rather large when compared to those obtained for the same nuclei using 40 MeV alpha particles as incident projectiles. However, the deformation lengths are found to be quite consistent for all particles at all energies.
