Knock out for subthreshold pion production

Abstract

The contribution of nucleon-nucleon-single collisions to subthreshold pion production in hadron-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions, Elab < 300 A MeV is investigated within a knock-out type model. This contribution might be important for energies higher than about 150 MeVnucleon but decrease strongly with decreasing beam energy.
