Abstract

The mean life of the 472 keV excited state of ⁴³Sc has been measured by a particle-gamma coincidence technique. The value obtained, τ = 227 ± 19 ps, indicates collective effects in ⁴³Sc.

The experimental data are evaluated for known nuclides of mass number A = 43 (Al,Si,P,S,Cl,Ar,K,Ca,Sc,Ti,V,Cr). Detailed evaluated level properties and related information are presented, including adopted values of level and γ–ray energies, decay data (energies, intensities and placement of radiations), and other spectroscopic data. This work supersedes earlier full evaluations of A = 43 published by 2001Ca24 and 1990En08 (also 1978En04, and 1998En04 update).
No excited states are known in ⁴³Al, ⁴³Si and ⁴³Cr. Only one excited state is known in ⁴³V which is the probable the Isobaric Analog State (IAS) of ⁴³Cr ground state. Information for ⁴³P, ⁴³S, ⁴³Cl, ⁴³Ar and ⁴³Ti is limited; there is either no decay data available or the decay schemes are incomplete in view of large Q values and known excitations much lower than allowed by Q values. The ⁴³K, ⁴³Ca and ⁴³Sc nuclides remain the most extensively studied from many different reactions and decays.

The experimentally determined properties of the A = 21–44 nuclei are compiled and evaluated, special emphasis being given to nuclear structure.
Separate tables for each of the nuclides reviewed give all available information about the following properties in this order: - excitation energies (E_x),

  - γ-ray branching ratios,
2. •
  - γ-ray mixing ratios (δ),
3. •
  - lifetimes (τ_m) or widths (Λ),
4. •
  - spin and parity (J^π) and isospin (T) assignments, and
5. •
  - any other data, on single-particle transfer, resonance levels, etc.
The “best” (or adopted) values for E_x, τ_m or Λ, J^π and T are summarized in a master table.
The review of each A-chain concludes with - a discussion of isospin multiplets,

Electron and gamma transitions in 45Sc

Energy levels below 1.5 MeV excitation energy in ⁴⁵Sc have been studied via Coulomb excitation with ⁴He particles and via the inelastic proton scattering process. Cross-section measurements for E2 excitation of the 377, 720 and 1237 keV levels provided values for the B(E2)↑, of the upward transitions. Angular distribution measurements on the de-excitation gamma rays limited spin assignments to the levels and mixing ratios in the gamma transitions. The gamma rays observed after inelastic proton scattering clarified the decay schemes of most of the low levels: observation of conversion electrons that occurred in the decays of the 377, 543 and 720 keV states enabled spin and parity values of $(32, 52)^{−}, 52 (+)$ and $52^{−}$ to be assigned to those levels. The scheme obtained for ⁴⁵Sc is compared to model predictions and the simi- larity to the structures of the other scandium isotopes suggests the usefulness of the mixing of two-hole configurations in the description of the natural parity levels.
