Abstract

Angular distributions and excitation functions of the elastic scattering reaction 12C(α, α0) have been analysed in terms of complex phase shifts for the range of incident alpha particle energies 6.6 MeV ≦ Eα ≦ 8.5 MeV. The results confirm the presence of four levels in the compound nucleus system 16O at excitation energies of 13.01, 13.08, 13.12 and 13.25 MeV, respectively. Level parameters for the states at 13.01 and 13.12 MeV have been deduced with more accuracy than from previous measurements.
