Abstract

We have traced the energy surface of some actinide nuclides 232Th, 240Pu, 252Fm and 258Fm, using the two-step iterative method. This method uses information from the first two iterations of the self-consistency cycle to estimate the constrained Hartree-Fock energies. Five Skyrme-type forces have been used to calculate the fission barrier of 240Pu and the dependence of the barrier height on certain physical quantities was investigated. The interaction which gives better agreement with experimental results for 240Pu is then used to trace deformation curves for some other actinides. The results are found to be in good agreement with other theoretical calculations and experimental results.
