Abstract

The spins of the 0.46, 0.66, 1.23 and 1.89 MeV states in 34Cl have been established as J = 1, 1, 2 and 2, respectively, from angular correlation measurements in the 32S(ρ, pγ)34Cl reaction. The branching ratios of these states and some mixing ratios were also obtained.

The mean lives of the 34Cl levels at 0.46, 0.66 and 1.23 MeV, ρm = 9 ± 4, 14+11−6 and > 14 ps, respectively, were found from DSA measurements in the reaction 31P(α, nγ)34Cl.

The 1+ → 0+, ΔT = 1, M1 transitions are quite slow as compared to similar transitions in other self-conjugated nuclei; this can be understood from shell-model arguments.
