Abstract

The polarization and correlation contributions to the single-particle energies of neutrons and protons in 208Pb are evaluated by using the dispersion relation approach developed in a previous paper. One test of the meaningfulness of the approach is proposed and applied. Several comparisons with empirical data are performed and turn out to be satisfactory on the average.
