Abstract

A general expression of the collision duration is obtained in the region of an isolated resonance distorted by the non-resonant background. Various cases of the distortion delay-advance effects observed near a resonance are presented for the first time. With the help of this theoretical approach, the experimentally observed splitting of the resonance lifetime - which corresponds to a pit in the differential cross section - is described. Thus, the new delay-advance phenomenon near a resonance is experimentally confirmed. The experimental data were obtained by the 16O(p, p) reaction near the isolated resonance state 3.105 MeV, 12 of the 17F compound nucleus using the bremsstrahlung method.
