Abstract

The magnetic hyperfine splitting νM=|NBHF/h| of the π5212 [541] ground state of 3.6 h 173Ta in Fe has been measured with nuclear magnetic resonance on oriented nuclei to be 336.4(1) MHz. With the known hyperfine field of BHF(TaFe) = −648(13) kG the magnetic moment of 173Ta is deduced to be |μ| = 1.703(34)μN, which is considerably smaller than all other π5212 [541] magnetic moments known experimentally.
