Model-independent analysis of the ππ phase shifts from πN → ππN data

The analysis of ππ scattering phase shifts near threshold has been performed. The average S- and P-ππ phase shifts have been determined by fitting all of the available experimental data for 5 charge reaction channels. The application of the Roy equations allows one to obtain self-consistent ππ scattering partial amplitudes. The calculated amplitudes are in agreement with the experimentally obtained phase shifts and satisfy the analyticity, unitarity and crossing conditions for a restricted range of S-wave scattering lengths 0.205 < a₀⁰ < 0.270, −0.048 < a₀² < −0.016 in inverse pion mass units.
Analysis of data on low energy πN → ππN reaction I. Total cross sections

This is the first of a series of papers on a consistent model-independent analysis of the complete experimental information on the reaction πN → ππN at pion momenta up to 500 MeV/c. The paper summarizes the theoretical approach and details of the computational procedure. The complete database on total cross sections in 5 ππN-channels is given together with a critical discussion of their model-independent analysis.
π-π scattering lengths at finite temperature

The s-wave π-π scattering lengths a¹(T) at finite temperature T and isospin I = 0,2 are calculated within the SU(2) Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. a²(T) displays a singularity at the Mott temperature T_M, defined as m_π(T_M) = 2m_q(T_M), while a⁰(T) is singular in addition at the lower temperature T_d, where m_σ(T_d) = 2m_π(T_d), m_ρ and m_π being the masses of the σ and π mesons, respectively. Numerically we find T_d = 198 MeV and T_M = 215 MeV. We speculate on possible experimental consequences.
