Abstract

The first measurements of polarization effects in 3He induced single-nucleon transfer reactions are presented for 9Be and 12C targets. Strong j-dependence of the analysing powers has been established in the (3He, α) reactions while the (3He, d) reaction data are less conclusive. A standard DWBA analysis predicts correctly the sign of the j-dependence and the magnitude of the analysing powers in the (3He, α) reaction and gives a satisfactory description of the 12C(3He, d)13Ng.s. data, provided that finite-range corrections are incorporated in the calculations. Estimates of separate j = 12and32 transfer contributions are compared with theoretical predictions.
