Abstract

Analytical formulae have been derived for the density of particle-hole states having all particles bound. Such states are involved in the statistical multi-step compound MSC emission. Results of calculations are compared with predictions of other theoretical approaches.

The standard approach to level densities goes back to the pioneering work of Bethe [5] who calculated the total level density as a function of excitation energy with the help of the Darwin–Fowler method. Basically the same method was used in many of the later works [6–11] dealing with the density of p-particle h-hole states and related quantities. A beautiful review is given in Ref. [12].
