Abstract

Alpha transfer reactions induced by beams of 7Li, 11B and 13C on targets of mass 12, 13, 14 and 15 have been studied to investigate α-cluster states in the final nuclei. It is found that for 14N and 15N targets a weak coupling model based on the 20Ne ground state band can be used to interpret the data, whereas for the 13C target a weak coupling model based on the excited 6.03 0+ band of 16O is not appropriate. Spectroscopic factors for α-transfer on to 15N and 14N are found to be explained by the weak coupling model. New states are identified in 18F and 17O. The (7Li, t) reaction is studied on 12C at 68 MeV and the anomalies found using this reaction on 16O are found to persist.
