Abstract

Results from studies of discrete line γ-ray spectroscopy at the highest spins using the spectrometer TESSA 2 are described. These include the observation of a rotational band to above spin 40 with enhanced deformation in 132Ce, the measurement of spins in the region of 40ħ, the systematics of proton alignment for the Er isotopes and the N=90 isotones and an explanation of the discontinuities in rotational band structure seen in N=90 nuclei near spin 40 in terms of a strong interaction between states with prolate and oblate shapes.
