Abstract

The cross section for the production of fast, forward-going neutrons in the d(p, n)2p reaction has been measured at mean proton energies of 94.7 and 143.9 MeV and compared with the predictions of the impulse approximation. This calculation took into account the final-states state interaction of the two, slow, residual protons. The agreement in cross-section values is within the limit of experimental accuracy which is about 10%. The shape of the neutron spectrum has been measured with an energy resolution of 1.90±0.06 MeV at 95.7 MeV. Within the limits imposed by this energy resolution there is good agreement between the calculated neutron spectra and that observed.
