Abstract

The spin correlation parameter CNN in proton-proton scattering has been determined for the scattering angle 90° c.m. at the three energies 143.2 MeV, 98.0 MeV and 73.5 MeV. The value of CNN (61.8°) was also determined at 143.2 MeV. The results are expressed (where appropriate) as ratios to the CNN (90°) value at 143.2 MeV and are as follows:

  • •

    CNN (90°, 143.2 MeV) = 1.00±0.05,

  • •

    CNN (61.8°, 143.2 MeV)/CNN (90°, 143.2 MeV) = 0.83±0.03,

  • •

    CNN (90°, 98 MeV)/CNN (90°, 143.2 MeV) = 0.69±0.04,

  • •

    CNN (90°, 73.5 MeV)/CNN (90°, 143.2 MeV) = 0.25±0.05.

The experimental technique involved a polarized proton beam and a polarized proton target. The radiation damage of the proton target constituted a serious problem in this work.
