Levels in 56Co studied by two-nucleon transfer reactions

Abstract

The experimental results of the study of the ⁵⁴Fe(³He,p)⁵⁶Co and ⁵⁸Ni(d,α)⁵⁶Co reactions are presented. The DWBA analysis of the ⁵⁴Fe(³He,p)⁵⁶Co reaction is discussed and leads to qualitative and quantitative accounts of the experimental data. The effects of a spin-isospin-dependent term in the stripping interaction and of a spin-orbit coupling term in the proton optical potential are investigated. The states for which the wave function is mainly of the $[π(f_{72})_{0+}^{−} π p_{32}]J^{π}^{T}$ configuration are identified in ⁵⁶Co. For this configuration, the energy splitting between analogue and non-analogue states is compared to the splitting in the neighbouring nuclei.

Energy levels of 56Co studied by the 58Ni(d, α)56Co reaction near 0°

Tensor analyzing powers, T₂₀, of outgoing α-particles in the ⁵⁸Ni( $d$ , α)⁵⁶Co reaction at detection angles near 0° have been measured for excited states in ⁵⁶Co for beam energies of 6.75, 7.0, 7.5, 9.0 and 9.5 MeV. Thirty-seven spin-parity combinations for ⁵⁶Co excited states have been deduced. Previous J^π ambiguities for 11 of these states have been eliminated, and results in conflict with existing assignments for the levels at 3.235 and 3.378 MeV have been obtained. A search for 0⁺ states was carried out from angular distribution measurements at forward angles of the unpolarized (d, α) reaction. The combined results from this and previous experiments were found to be in reasonable agreement with calculated level schemes.
High-spin states of 1f-2p shell odd-odd nuclei excited by (α, d) reactions

High-spin states in the 1f-2p shell doubly odd nuclei of ⁵²V, ⁵⁴Mn, ⁵⁶Co and ⁵⁸Co were investigated by (α, d) reactions with 23.9 MeV α-particles. In each nucleus two levels were strongly excited, one at a lower excitation energy around 0.5 MeV, and another at a higher excitation energy around 4.5 MeV. The angular distributions were analyzed by using a zero-range DWBA calculation. The levels at the lower excitation energy (∼ 0.5 MeV) were identified as having a configuration of $[π f^{n}_{72} ν P_{32}]_{5^{+}}$ . The levels at higher excitation energy (∼ 4.5 MeV) were newly assigned states with a $[π f^{n}_{72} ν g_{92}]$ configuration.
