Abstract

Angular correlation measurements with a Compton-suppression spectrometer in combination with polarization measurements with a three-crystal Ge(Li) Compton polarimeter of γ-rays produced in the 24Mg(16O, 2pγ)38Ar reaction result in an unambiguous Jπ = 6+ assignment to the 6408.3 ± level. It is exclusive decay to the 5, 4.59 MeV level is discussed.
