Abstract

The energy loss of 5 to 6 MeV alpha particles has been measured in ferromagnetic targets below and above the Curie temperature. For a 5.47 mg/cm2 iron target the measured energy loss in the paramagnetic state was larger by 1.5% than in the ferromagnetic state. The corresponding value for a 9.53 mg/cm2 gadolinium target was 0.2%.
