Abstract

The first level energy trigger of the L3 experiment at LEP is based on energy measurements in the electromagnetic and hadronic calorimeters and in the luminosity monitors. It was originally designed for LEP operating in 4 × 4 bunch mode, with a bunch crossing interval of 22.2 μs and then modified to operate in 8 × 8 bunch mode with a bunch crossing interval of 11.1 μs. The new version of the energy trigger has been operational in the L3 experiment in the last period of 1992. This paper describes its new design and its efficiency in accepting e+ e interactions.
