In contrast, the values reported by other authors (Ward and Cambell, 1986; Ward et al., 1987; Sturaro et al., 1994; Nowak, 1998; Chojnacka et al., 2005; Dongarrà et al., 2012) were lower than ours. Similarly to Dongarrà et al. (2012) which measured in children's hair nineteen elements, copper was one of the most abundant elements found in our study.

2013, Ecotoxicology and Environmental SafetyCitation Excerpt :Looking at the data, it can be noted the important role of manganese: it is the most correlated element depending on its characteristics of cofactor for a number of important enzymes (e.g., arginase, cholinesterase, phosphoglucomutase, pyruvate carboxylase, mitochondrial superoxide dismutase and several phosphates, peptidases and glycosyltransferases), and on functionality in the vitamin K mechanism (formation of prothrombin). In literature different papers report element concentration values in hair of worldwide population: in Table 5 we compare the range of the metal and metalloid content obtained in this study with other data from different parts of the world (Kamakura, 1983; Campbell et al., 1986; Man et al., 1996; Senofonte et al., 2000; Tavakkoli et al., 2000; Mohammed and Spyrou, 2008). First of all, we would like to underline the power of INAA, able to analyze simultaneously a lot of elements at trace levels and with large dynamic concentration range (up to 200-times) as well.
