Abstract

Radiative transition wavelengths and rates as well as Auger transition probabilities for the deexcitation of the 1s2s22p, 1s2s2p2, and 1s2p3 configurations of Be-like ions have been calculated relativistically by the multiconfiguration Dirac-Fock method. Eight ions with atomic numbers in the range 6 ⩽ Z ⩽ 26 are considered. The transverve Breit interaction and quantum electrodynamic corrections are taken into account in the energy calculations. The transition rates are computed in intermediate coupling with configuration interaction within the same complex. Both Coulomb and generalized Breit interactions are included in the evaluation of relativistic Auger matrix elements. The dielectronic satellite intensity factors and line fluorescence yields are also calculated.

Fig. 4 shows the uncertainty evaluation of radiative rates [30]. The results computed in the present work are compared with other theoretical data from Refs. [2,8,29,31]. From Fig. 4, it can be seen that the differences between results in this work and other references become smaller for the stronger transitions.

With the advent of electron beam ion traps, interactions of variously ionized atoms with other atoms and ions and with intense ultra-short laser pulses are routinely being investigated [1–5]. There have been numerous experimental and theoretical investigations of multiply ionized atoms including silicon atoms [1–24] in recent years. The characteristic X-ray lines from variously ionized silicon atoms show up abundantly in the spectra of many astronomical objects including the sun, binary stars, and the galactic halo [21–24].
