The statistical mechanics of a Gompertz model of n interacting species is reconsidered. The existence of (n−1) independent constants of motion implies in the case of antisymmetric interactions the existence of int (n/2) “temperatures”. The conditions under which the distribution for the intrinsic abundance of species can still be log normal are obtained.
