Abstract

A simple method of manufacturing multiwire proportional chambers is described on an example of a 160 mm × 160 mm chamber. Using a microscope the wires of anode planes are positioned to an accuracy of about 10 μm. Wire tensions are checked by comparing their natural frequencies to the notes of a musical instrument. A description of a drum-like device for foil stretching is also given.
