Abstract

We evaluate the Coulomb-excitation cross sections in relativistic heavy-ion collisions by means of the plane-wave Born approximation. The final total cross section is shown to be equal to that obtained by a semiclassical method. As a byproduct the virtual photon spectrum for similar electromagnetic processes is derived. Comparison with other methods is performed.
