Abstract

Specific heats from 100 to 360 K and thermal conductivity at room temperature are reported for Bi4Ge3O12 (“BGO”), a material with known scintillation properties. Typical data areC= 0.3 J g-1 K-1 andλ = 1.8 W m-1 K-1 at 20δC.

It characterises the ability of materials to conduct heat energy. For this study, specific equipment was developed (Fig. 4); it was based on Neumann’s dynamical method [13,14], which is less sensitive to lateral losses of heat when using specimens with small dimensions (1.6 × 1.6 × 12 cm3). Both ends of the rod were subjected to periodical changes of temperature.
