Drosophila neuropeptides in regulation of physiology and behavior
2010, Progress in NeurobiologyCitation Excerpt :As mentioned earlier, in Drosophila another gene (Capa; CG15520) encodes another pyrokinin peptide CAPA-PK (Kean et al., 2002). In various insect species the pyrokinin-like peptides include pheromone biosynthesis activating neuropeptides (PBANs), diapause inducing hormones (DHs), melanization and reddish coloration hormones (MRCHs) and myostimulatory pyrokinins or myotropins, each displaying different biological activities indicated by their names (see Bader et al., 2007b; Choi et al., 2001; Davis et al., 1992; Predel et al., 2007a; Predel and Wegener, 2006; Rafaeli, 2002, 2008; Raina, 1993; Schoofs et al., 2001, 1990c, 1997; Verleyen et al., 2004b). Another activity more recently discovered for pyrokinins is as a factor accelerating pupariation in fleshflies (Nachman et al., 2006; Verleyen et al., 2004b; Zdarek et al., 2004).
Peptidomic survey of the locust neuroendocrine system
2009, Insect Biochemistry and Molecular BiologyCitation Excerpt :In L. migratoria and S. gregaria, respectively ten and seven myotropic peptides ending with –FXPRLamide and designated as pyrokinins (Lom-PK 1–10 and Scg-PK 1–7), have been identified. In addition, one peptide ending with –FXXPRLamide, designated as pyrokinin-like peptide-1 (Lom-PKL-1 and Scg-PKL-1) and one peptide ending with -PRLamide (Scg-PKL-2) was identified (Clynen et al., 2003a; Schoofs et al., 1990c,e, 1991a, 1992a, 1993a; Veelaert et al., 1997b). We found that in both locust species the PKs (-FXPRLamides) are confined to ganglia, neurohemal organs and nerves in the head and are most represented in the corpora allata.

2004, Biochemical and Biophysical Research CommunicationsCitation Excerpt :More extraction solution was added to the pellet and this was again sonicated and centrifuged at 9000g for 10 min. Supernatants were pooled, the extraction solvent (the organic part) was evaporated, and the residue was diluted with 0.1% aqueous trifluoroacetic acid and delipidated as described previously [10]. The extracted material, without organic solvents, was diluted to approximately 5 ml with 0.1% TFA and applied to Sep-Pak C18 cartridge.
