2023, Journal of Equine Veterinary ScienceCitation Excerpt :In contrast, the horses in the standard and soft groups failed to reach maximum speed due to the track surface conditions. Endogenous creatinine is a product of muscle tissue metabolism of creatine and levels correlate positively with functional status [28]. In this study, plasma creatinine levels immediately after exercise were found to be significantly lower than those pre-exercise in all the groups, indicating that the horses were in a fatigued state and that this metabolite warrants further evaluation as a potential marker of fatigue.
