Abstract

Transduction experiments using phage λ as a vector have shown that non-conjugative plasmids can be transduced from one cell to the other, provided the phage or the plasmid DNA carries a copy of a Tn3-like transposon. The transduction is a result of replicon fusion between the phage and the plasmid DNA occurring during the transposition event.
