Abstract

The Raman- and infrared-spectra of Si6H12 and Si6D12 have been measured and assigned, indicating that cyclohexasilane exists in a chair conformation analogous to cyclohexane. A normal-coordinate analysis, assuming Dd3-symmetry, has been carried out using isotopic data. The SiSi-stretching force constant is calculated to be 1.635 ± 0.015 N/cm.

Disilacyclohexane with two silicons in the 1,3, 1,4 and 1,2-positions [5], were studied by IR spectroscopy and gaseous electron diffraction, respectively. Cyclohexasilane (Si6H12) was investigated [6] by various methods including vibrational [7], photoelectron [8] and 29Si-NMR [9] spectroscopy. In the perhalogenated cyclohexasilanes Si6Cl12 and Si6Br12 X-ray studies revealed that the six silicon atoms adopt a chair conformation [10].

Disilacyclohexane with two silicons in the 1,3, 1,4 and 1,2-positions [5], were studied by IR spectroscopy and by gaseous electron diffraction. Cyclohexasilane (Si6H12) was prepared long ago [6] and studied by various methods including vibrational [7], photoelectron [8] and 29Si NMR [9] spectroscopy. In the perhalogenated cyclohexasilanes Si6Cl12 and Si6Br12, X-ray studies revealed that the six silicon atoms adopt a chair conformation [10].
