Cold acclimation preserves hindgut reabsorption capacity at low temperature in a chill-susceptible insect, Locusta migratoria
2021, Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology -Part A : Molecular and Integrative PhysiologyCitation Excerpt :The difference in rectal KCl transport between acclimation groups resulted largely from changes in Vt which is indicative of changes in the activity, amount or regulatory sensitivity of membrane-bound transporters. We examined the sensitivity of cAMP and cGMP signaling pathways following acute cold exposure and cold acclimation due to their known effects on rectal ion transport (Chamberlin and Phillips, 1988; Herault and Proux, 1987; Jeffs and Phillips, 1996). Transcriptional regulation of genes involved in these signaling pathways are also known to be affected by cold acclimation in orthopterans (Des Marteaux et al., 2017).
