Abstract
RECENT evidence has shown that the immune response in human cigarette smokers1 and in mice chronically exposed to fresh cigarette smoke2–4 is impaired. It has been proposed that depressed immunity in smokers may therefore be involved in the increased prevalence of respiratory infection and neoplasia associated with this habit5.
