Plutonium and Polonium inside Giant Brown Algae

Abstract

ALTHOUGH plutonium is an extremely toxic radioactive element1,2 and has at least two long lived nuclides—239Pu (t½ = 24,000 yr) and 238Pu (t½ = 88 yr)—little is known of how it becomes dispersed; too few measurements have been made in particular in marine environments.
