Abstract
DURING 1960, Mr. C. E. Bye, of Sault Ste. Marie, discovered the markings that are described here in the Lorrain Formation of Huronian age in Johnson Township, District of Algoma, Ontario. The occurrence is 1.75 miles north-east of Desbarats, about 25 miles southeast of Sault Ste. Marie. He collected a slab measuring about 15 in. × 11 in. with markings on its lower surface, and forwarded it to Dr. J. J. Brummer, who also recognized the importance of this discovery, and sent the specimen to the Geological Survey of Canada. During 1961, Frarey mapped the area in which the fossils were found1. In the company of Mr. Bye he visited the locality, collected additional specimens, and confirmed the identification of the outcrop as Lorrain Formation. It was visited again in 1962 by us, and we examined the field relationships and photographed specimens on the outcrop. We thank Mr. Bye and Kennco Exploration (Canada), Ltd., for permission to publish their discovery.
