Notes:
The photochemical reaction of n- and π-electron donors with metal carbonyls or their derivatives, which was discovered some years ago, provides a means of preparing a wide range of new metal-carbonyl derivatives which are obtainable only in poor yields or not at all by thermal reactions. - Preparative methods are described. The mechanism of this photochemically induced substitution was elucidated for selected examples, and an attempt has been made to gain an insight into the polarity of the metal-ligand bond. - This paper is intended as a survey of work published recently in this field.
