Notizen: Abstract It has been shown that the competence-inducing factor of Bacillus subtilis 168I− exhibits lytic activity toward isolated cell walls and nuclease activity toward transforming DNA. It has been shown that the competence factor covalently bound to CNBr-Sepharose exhibits the same enzymatic properties. A mechanism for the transformation process is proposed which advances the mechanism previously proposed by this laboratory.
