Notes: Proton and infrared absorption spectra of seven peroxysterols of general structure 6ξ-alkoxy-5,6ξ-epidioxy-5ξ-5,6-secocholestane-3β,5-diol reveal low-field (δH 10.0-10.8) sharp one-proton singlets and associated sharp 3280-3330 cm-1 absorption bands of the 5ξ-hydroxy group, intramolecularly hydrogen bonded to vicinal peroxide oxygen in a previously unrecognized correlation. The peroxysterols are also characterized by 13C NMR spectra.
