Material displayed at the “Achema 1961”The great extent of this year's “Achema” precludes an exhaustive description. The present report must therefore be confined to brief particulars designed to facilitate orientation. Pride of place is given to irons and steels which continue to be the most important materials in the chemical industry. The next section is devoted to non-ferrous metals and alloys. Partly due to the progress in nuclear technology and space research, this field, in particular, shows a good deal of progress and many innovations. In connection with the discussions of ceramics and glass the opportunity is taken to discuss “Cermets”, glass fibers, enamellings, etc. Rubber and plastics provide a highly topical and important sector of the “Achema”, and are taken into account on many of the stands. A further chapter dealing with natural and chemical fibers is followed by one headed “Other materials” which combines all the special features displayed at the “Achema” in regard to wood, paper, cardboard, graphite, chemicals, basic materials, etc. The brief survey is concluded by short references to surface protection, measuring methods and testing apparatus.

Der sehr große Umfang der Achema schließt eine erschöpfende Darstellung aus. Auch der vorliegende Bericht beschränkt sich daher auf kurze Angaben, die nur den Zweck haben, den Überblick zu erleichtern. Es werden zunächst Eisen und Stähle behandelt, die nach wie vor die wichtigsten Baustoffe der chemischen Industrie bilden. Der nächste Hauptabschnitt ist den anderen Metallen und Legierungen gewidmet. Gerade auf diesem Gebiete gibt es, z. T. veranlaßt durch den Aufschwung von Kerntechnik und Weltraumforschung, viele Fortschritte und Neuerungen. Die Besprechung von Keramik und Glas als Werkstoff bietet Gelegenheit, auch auf Cermets, Glasfasern, Emaillierungen oder dgl. einzugeben. Mit Kautschuk und Kunststoffen ist ein sehr aktueller und wichtiger Sektor de Achema erreicht, der auf vielen Ausstellungsständen berücksichtigt worden ist. Auf ein weiteres Kapitel über natürlich und Chemie-Fasern folgt ein solches, in dem unter dem Oberbegriff „sonstige Werkstoffe“ alles das vereinigt ist, was hinsichtlich Holz, Papier, Pappe, Kohle, Graphit, Chemikalien, Grundstoffen usw. dem Besucher der Achema besonders in die Augen gefallen ist. Abschließend geht das Sammelreferat in Stichworten auf Oberflächenschutz, Meßmethoden und Prüfgeräte ein.
