Notes:
A review of recent investigations of the strength and stress rupture of single filaments of poly(paraphenylene terephthalamide) (PPTA) is given. The experimental results are presented within an activation energy/power law breakdown framework. The statistics for tensile failure of individual filaments and epoxy impregnated strands and the lifetime of filaments in stress rupture are shown to fit the standard two-parameter Weibull distribution, as predicted from the model.
