Bei der Umsetzung des o-Phthaldialdehyds mit Alkylhydroperoxyden entstehen 1.3-Diperoxy-phthalane. Mit Wasserstoffperoxyd bildet sich ein cyclisches Peroxyd mit Sechsringstruktur. Die Hydroxylgruppen in dieser Verbindung können gegen Alkoxyl- order Alkylperoxy-Gruppen ausgetauscht werden. Durch Ozonisation von Naphthalin in Methanol und anschließende Hydrierung des gebildeten 3-Hydroxy-6-methoxy-4.5-benzol-1.2-dioxens kann o-Phthaldialdehyd hergestellt werden.
