Synthesis of 2.3-Diamino-2.3-dideoxy-D-galactoseThe title compound is synthesized by inversion of configuration at C-4 in suitably substituted derivatives of 2,3-diamino-2,3-dideoxy-D-glucose (6 and 7). The 4-mesyloxy group shows a very high reactivity in these compounds due to the neighboring benzamido group at C-3. Reaction with sodium acetate causes cyclization to an oxazoline which on ring opening gives the corresponding galacto derivatives. On reaction with alkoxides attack by the nitrogen atom seems to be preferred giving cyclization products of partly unknown constitution.

Die Darstellung der Titelverbindung erfolgt durch Inversion der Konfiguration von C-4 in geeignet substituierten Derivaten der 2.3-Diamino-2.3-didesoxy-D-glucose (6 und 7). Die 4-Mesyloxygruppe zeigt in diesen Verbindungen eine sehr hohe Reaktionsfähigkeit, bedingt durch die Nachbarschaft der Benzamidgruppe an C-3. Während Umsetzung mit Natrium-acetat Cyclisierung zu einem Oxazolin bewirkt, welches bei der Ringöffnung in das entsprechende galakto-Derivat übergeht, führt die Reaktion mit Alkoholaten zu Cyclisierungs-produkten, die durch Beteiligung des N-Atoms entstehen und deren Konstitution zum Teil noch nicht aufgeklärt werden konnte.
