Photoelectron Spectra and Molecular Properties, XXXII. n/π-Conjugation in Heterosubstituted EthylenesThe photoelectron (PE) spectra of mono-, di- and tetrasubstituted ethylenes with SCH3, OCH3, N(CH3)2 substituents furnish information on the n/π-conjugation. The MO models used in the assignment have to be extended to include antibonding orbitals, especially for the thio derivatives. The parameters obtained from the PE data render possible, for example, to predict ionization potentials of other similarly substituted π-systems. Effects of molecular geometry and of methyl group hyperconjugation are estimated by means of EHMO- and CNDO-calculations.

Die Photoelektronen (PE)-Spektren von mono-, di- und tetrasubstituierten Äthylenen mit Substituenten SCH3, OCH3 und N(CH3)2 geben Auskunft über das Ausmaß der n/π-Konjugation. In den zur Zuordnung verwendeten MO-Modellen sind besonders bei den Thio-Derivaten antibindende Orbitale zu berücksichtigen. Die aus den PE-Daten erhaltenen Parameter erlauben z. B., Ionisierungsenergien anderer gleichartig substituierter π-Systeme vorher-zusagen. Einflüsse der Molekülgeometrie und der Methylgruppen-Hyperkonjugation werden anhand von EHMO- und CNDO-Rechnungen abgeschätzt.
