Notes: Preparation of Fumaraldehydic Acid and Some of its DerivativesFumaraldehydic acid (4) is easily prepared by thermal isomerization of malealdehydic acid (1). The preparation of ester acetals and esters of both compounds starting from fumaraldehydic acid is described which are useful basic materials in the synthesis of natural products.
