On the Guerbet Reaction and its Technical ImportanceThe chemism of the alkaline condensation of alcohols to higher molecular isoalcohols via carbonyl combinations is secured by the proof of intermediate products. It was possible to improve the yield to 80%, through which the reaction gains technical importance. Fat alcohol from first runnings was used to prepare higher molecular alcohols whose water-soluble derivatives have valuable surface-active properties. The condensation products have the characteristic α-chain branching in common with the so-called „oxo-alcohols“ and „isobutyl oils“.

Der Chemismus der alkalischen Kondensation von Alkoholen zu höhermolekularen Isoalkoholen über Carbonyl-Verbindungen wird durch den Nachweis von Zwischenprodukten sichergestellt. Die Ausbeute ließ sich auf 80% verbessern, wodurch die Reaktion technische Bedeutung erlangt. Aus Vorlauffettalkoholen wurden höhermolekulare Alkohole hergestellt, deren wasserlösliche Derivate wertvolle oberflächenaktive Eigenschaften besitzen. Die Kondensationsprodukte haben mit den sog. „Oxoalkoholen“ und „Isobutylölen“ die charakteristische α-Kettenverzweigung gemein.
