Notes:
Focusing ion exchange (FI) is used for the separation and identification of cations. Groups II, III, IV are separated in the course of 5 min. and in quantities of 10 μg per ion by using a pH gradient and Ethylenediamine tetracetate, Nitrilotriacetate, Acetate, Chloride, Tartrate as complexing agents parallel with an electric field. Other means for producing a gradient in complex formation are mentioned. FI is a powerful method for concentrating ions.
